Bob Barr? Is that the best they could come up with???
The problem with the LP is not their platform... Their platform is wonderful!! It's their candidates.... They are garbage!

Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Thu, November 20, 2008 - 1:39 PMWhat about Bardnarik? He didnt' seem to bad.....
I'm sure the reason they went with Barr was because he was a career politician (which isn't a plus in my book) with many years on the hill.
I'm curious how a person like Barr who opposes the seperation of church and state could be considered our libertarian candidate. There was nothing libertarian about him when he was a republican, and then he comes to the LP only when the Republicans were done with him but he wasn't quite ready to quit. What does that say about us? -

Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Fri, November 21, 2008 - 10:43 AMA third party only helps the party that is 180 deg. of from your party
So let's stop talking about a third party and take over the GOP -

Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Fri, November 21, 2008 - 12:06 PMWhy are you hijacking this thread?
No one was talking about a third party.... we're talking about how shitty the candidates are the LP party choses and the fact that is why they aren't doing better in national elections inspite of their wonderful platform.
You can't take over the GOP if you dont have a decent candidate to run. -

Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Fri, November 21, 2008 - 3:41 PMWell, if we had $700,000,000 maybe we could make an impact on the next election. -

Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Sun, November 30, 2008 - 11:20 AMHi Flamingo. I missed the significance of that number. Are you suggesting someone spent that on their campaign or something? -
-
Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Sun, November 30, 2008 - 11:56 AMYup. This was the most expensive campaign in history with Obama spending nearly $700M alone.
Here is one story: www.politico.com/news/stor...15283.html
Here is a breakdown of the spending by the Obama campaign:

Let me revise that:
Obama spent $573M
McCain Spent $293M
Compare that with any of the other candidates-
Nadar: $3M
Barr: $1M
Baldwin: $168K
McKinney: $119K
What chance do we stand? -

Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Mon, December 8, 2008 - 12:54 PMAgreed those are unreasonable amounts of money spent to become elected, especially considering how much that money could help our ecomony if it had been spent differnetly....
so what's the solution? Government funded campaigns? Surely you're not hoping for that... -
-
Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Mon, December 8, 2008 - 8:53 PMmaybe a cap on campaign spending? -
-
Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Tue, December 9, 2008 - 8:54 AMlet people do what they will, no more licence to operate TV, radio, ....
That would level the paying feeld more than anything -
-
Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Tue, December 9, 2008 - 9:03 AMHow would that level the playing field?
It will all boil down the money and we will still be stuck at where we are.
As it is the candidates are all supposed to get equal on air time. How many times did you see any of the 3rd party candidates on 20/20, nightline, Opera, Larry King, etc?
Publicity costs money only the one big party (under two names) has it. -

Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Tue, December 9, 2008 - 3:32 PMThat way, you and I could open up a station, and propigate what we want and who we want
and ultametly if pp like what you say they will listen, and you bring power to the masses, it only cost's 3000 to set up a TV station

Thu, November 27, 2008 - 1:56 PM"hijacking"
you are way to sensitive, my point is that if NLP was under the GOP, the candidate would do better

Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Sun, November 30, 2008 - 11:28 AMI don't understand that at all. If you want to be a Republican, there's nothing stopping you from becoming one... Why would any libertarian want the NLP to be part of the republicans?
We dont need to join another party to do better. We need to nominate better candidates instead of idiots and assholes, and we need to better communication our message to the masses. -
-
Re: What's wrong with the NLP???
Tue, December 2, 2008 - 7:57 AMI don't want any specific lable or party, but i think if you had libertarian polacys beeing the platform of a party that has the orgination to get the news out, it would do well
It could be any pary name, the polacys and skill is what maters
